Katra is a small town in Jammu and Kashmir, best known as the base camp for the Vaishno Devi Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites. Located at an altitude of 875 meters, it serves as the starting point for the 13 km trek to the holy shrine. The town is well-equipped with hotels, restaurants, and shops catering to pilgrims. Besides the temple, nearby attractions include Bhairavnath Temple, Ardhkuwari Cave, and Jhajjar Kotli. The best time to visit is September to April, when the weather is pleasant for trekking.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
